8 months already!

I can't believe that Kayleigh is 8 months old! Don't I say that every month??? She did successfully make a liar out of me. I said on her 7 month blog that I thought she would have a tooth by the end of the month. She's still chewing on things like crazy, and there were nights that I was sure she was cutting a tooth, but she still gives a toothless smile.
Using our scientific caculations, Erik and I measured Kayleigh at 26-ish inches (we've fluctuated between 25" and 27"), and she weighs about 20 1/2 pounds. That puts her in the 12th percentile for height (up from less than the 3rd percentile 2 months ago) and into the 84th percentile for weight (down from 86).
Kayleigh is starting to pull up, and is still working on crawling. She gets frustrated when she tries to crawl, but still gets into the position sometimes. Other times, she can't get both feet behind her and starts to whine.
Oh, and you might notice that Kayleigh isn't so gentle with Mumble anymore. Poor guy! He's a good sport, though, and let's her do whatever she wants!

One cute chick!

For the first time ever, Kayleigh smiled for the camera without being prompted! I was so proud of her! She's wearing a really cute outfit that I couldn't resist taking a picture of! I had to do it this morning before I took her to school, knowing that she probably wouldn't come home in it. Sure enough, she's in a different outfit now, so I am so glad that I took that picture early!

Kayleigh's first "words"

Kayleigh's starting to babble a lot more now. She likes to say "da da da". It's so cute!!! I need to get a video of it, but normally when she sees the camera in her face, she becomes entranced and forgets what she's doing.
Happy Friday!

Big surprise!

No, I'm not pregnant...
So, last Thursday, I got a call from day care saying that I needed to pick Kayleigh up because she had a fever. Luckily, they called after school, and Erik had Friday off, so he was able to stay home with her the next day. On Sunday night, I noticed a rash that had started on her tummy and back. I called the doctor's office Monday morning, but wasn't able to get an appointment until Tuesday. We went to the doctor's office on Tuesday, and the doctor said that the rash was probably an after effect of the fever that she had. Here's the big surprise: when he was checking her ears, he decided that she had an ear infection! How many times is this poor child going to get sick??? At least she's still able to go to school with an ear infection. She just wouldn't be allowed to go if she had a fever.
On the plus side, she doesn't have strep throat! A rash sometimes appears with strep. But, the nurse had to do a strep test. That's right, she shoved one of those extra long q-tips down Kayleigh's throat!! At least she's too young to remember the trauma.

Sleepy baby

Kayleigh and I have both been exhausted this week. It's been a little bit of a bummer for me that Kayleigh is so tired. All she wants to do when she gets home is sleep, and I miss getting to play with her. The people at day care get to have all of the fun with her, and all I get to do is get her ready for school or ready for bed.
Erik had a quiet day with Kayleigh today. Yesterday, the day care called me after school saying that I needed to come get her because she had a fever. We could tell that she didn't feel well last night. Today her temperature has gone down, and she seems to be feeling better. I hate to say it, but I'm afraid that her fever was trying to fight off another cold. She's coughing more today, and her nose is stuffed up. She's drooling a lot because she has to breathe out of her mouth. Luckily Erik had the day off today, and I have Monday off, so Kayleigh has plenty of time to get better before going back to day care on Tuesday.

A full week of work

This week started my first week back at work. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it! Jim and Shirley were nice enough to watch Kayleigh on Monday and Tuesday. She had a mild recurrence of her pink eye, and we wanted to keep her out of school as long as possible. Monday was a planning day, so that wasn't very hard. I did still get up early and got to work like I would on a normal day. Tuesday, school started an hour later--just trust me on that one! Wednesday, I finally took Kayleigh to school and met all of my students. It was the longest day that either of us have had.
Because of her long days, Kayleigh has been sleeping better at night. She has only woken up once the past two nights, and each time was around 4 AM. That might sound bad to some of you, but when she was waking up at least twice a night last week and making me paranoid, this waking up once is great! Plus, "sleeping through the night" is technically only 5-6 hours in a row, so I guess that means that that's what she's doing. If she goes to bed between 8:30 and 9:00, that gives her at least 7 hours in a row.
Now that Kayleigh is at school full time, she's becoming even more popular amongst the teachers. When I go to pick her up, I have teachers from other classes telling me how cute she is and what a cutie she is. Of course, you know I love to hear it! I've also had fun showing off her pictures to former students who have come to my classroom to visit. I'm turning into such a mom bragging on my daughter!
All in all, it looks like I just might survive the next 17 weeks of school. I'm sure the administration is glad to hear it, and I know Erik likes having company while he's getting ready for work in the mornings.

7 months old

I took Kayleigh's 7 month pictures yesterday, and I thought it would be fun to try something different. I will admit that Kayleigh is standing on her tiptoes, but how much height can that really give her??? Enjoy the pictures!
P.S. I think Kayleigh will have her first tooth by the end of the month. She's really chomping on stuff now. I'll keep you posted!

You're going to be jealous!!!

Phew! After a lot of procrastination, I finally painted Kayleigh's wall. I think I was most nervous about how hard it was going to be to paint inside the lines. Let me take you back about a month ago. My friend, Amy, and I stenciled the flowers and butterflies onto Kayleigh's wall. Our schedules never worked out for her to come back and help me paint everything. Last weekend I decided that I had waited long enough and that it was time to stop being a wimp and start painting. It took a long time, but I got it done in about a day and a half. Each piece took about 30 minutes to paint, with the hardest part being painting the edges and not going outside of the lines. I had to do two coats each of the purple and pink, and three coats of the yellow. Since Erik had the day off today, he watched Kayleigh while I did the accent circles inside each thing. I am quite proud of myself, and I hope that Kayleigh likes it for a LONG time!!!
