Where has the time gone???

I can't believe it. Kayleigh is 3 months old today! This summer has flown by faster than I ever could have imagined. She is smiling a lot more, "talking" more, and staying awake longer. I love the smiling and talking, but sometimes I wish she would sleep just a little more! She sleeps fine at night, but during the day I feel like I can get more done if she were asleep. Yes, I know that I can put her down while she's awake, but she likes to be held--And, I'm wrapped around her little finger.
I would do another slide show of how Kayleigh's grown, but her pictures are on the other computer, and I don't know how to get them. But, these are cute!

Playing cards

On my August 12th blog (titled "Uh oh"), I talked about Kayleigh playing cards with the big kids. Here is the best picture of the group. Doesn't she look like she's really concentrating on her next move?? We had so much fun with her that night! Thanks, Amy, for sending the pictures!!

Our little plumber

I just went to check on Kayleigh as she takes her nap, and this is what I found. The poor girl has thunder thighs, so we can't make the diapers tight enough to fit her waist. They have to be loose at the waist to fit around her thighs. It always makes me smile when I see her crack, though, and I'm sure this is just one more thing she'll be telling her therapist about! :)
On a different topic, Tracy (the dog) is getting smarter by the day. Somehow she managed to hide the note my mom had left saying that Tracy had already been fed and let out this morning. I guess mom did it while I was still asleep, and before she left for work. When I woke up, both Ginger and Tracy were asleep in bed with me, not looking at all like either of them had been up and fed. It was only after Tracy got her second bowl of food and was back in from being let out that I saw the note. I'm not sure how she did it, but you better believe that I'll be looking harder for that note tomorrow morning!

High school reunion

Today, 4 other girls and I got together for a little play date and catch up. The other girls pictured are all girls that Valerie and I graduated with. We were all friends, and it was so much fun to get together with them and their little ones. The girls pictured (and their kids) are: Kelli Bates holding daughter Avonlea. Her son, Lincoln is in the car seat. Kayleigh and me, Alison VanDuyne and son Noah, Polly and her daughter, Reese, and Ashley and her fill-in. Ashley has a son named Gavin, but he was sick today, so didn't get to come and play. The other girls are getting together again next week and would like to continue having play dates. I really might have to convince Erik to get a job down here! I'm going to miss out on all of the fun! I just wouldn't be able to go back to work, for fear that it would conflict with my fun time. :)

Roll over!!!

Those are the words that I keep repeating to Kayleigh. I feel like I'm treating her like one of the dogs. But, I promise you that today, just minutes ago, Kayleigh rolled over on her own! I'm trying to not get too excited since she was on the bed and rolled towards me. I think she might have had a little bit of a downward roll. Either way, it was amazing to see her do it! Did I mention that she did it twice??? She's now on the floor, and I'm talking to her like she's either Ginger or Tracy trying to get her to do a trick! I think she's going to do it again, and that it wasn't a fluke. I'm so glad that I'm not at work today!! What a neat thing to see her do something new!

It's done!!!...almost

Erik put down the last tile last night! It's taken awhile, but we're finally almost finished with this stuff. Erik promised that it would be done by this weekend. He's leaving on Sunday to go to Detroit for the week, and I'll be in St Pete visiting my parent and friends. I'm sure I'll get some head shakes for this, but I don't know if I could handle being at home by myself with a baby, 2 dogs and a bird for a week! Erik's parents will be out of town until Wednesday, so I would really be alone. So, instead of having to endure that, I'm taking off for St Pete so mommy and daddy can take care of me! But I digress...All that's left with the tile is the grout and re-attaching the quarter-round (part of the trim on the baseboards). The kitchen has been fully functional for a long time, but it'll be nice to have our dining room back, too. We've had to eat at the coffee table for the past month. It definitely makes it hard to have company!

A couple of more pictures

At the risk of blogging too much lately and not being able to keep up with it, here are a couple of pictures of Kayleigh that I took. I guess I'm a little jealous of the other parents that have recently had photo shoots of their babies. I'm also cheap, and I'm trying to steal the pretty pictures that I see from the other shoots. Hopefully, I'm getting good use out of my camera!

Giuniperos

Erik has been friends with the Giunipero family since he was in elementary school. Last night, Mrs. G invited us to go to dinner with the group. We went to a seafood place called Angelo's. It's an awesome restaurant that was destroyed by hurricane George and just re-opened a week ago. We were there to celebrate Michael and Karina's birthdays. (I'll explain who everyone is.) Mrs. Giunipero is also on of my moms up here in Tallahassee who I know I can go to if I need anything. She has definitely taken me in as one of her own. Mrs. G considers all of us pictured here her kids. I have numbered everyone so that you can see their relationship to each other. Erik and I were so glad to be asked to be a part of this family dinner, and, as always, enjoyed our time with everyone.
Here is who everyone is:
1. Erik--my hubby
2. Matthew--the oldest Giunipero son. He lives in Chicago with Karina
3. Karina--Matthew's girlfriend (she's from Poland. Isn't that cool??)
4. Lee--The Giunipero's next door neighbor since they moved in sometime in the 80s or earlier
5. Chrissy--Michael's wife and Tyler's mom. The three of them live in DC
6. Amanda--the youngest Giunipero. She lives here in town and works at THM. She had hoped to give Kayleigh her first bath after she was born, but was assigned the wrong area of the hospital! She was the first friend to meet her, though!
7. Joey--Amanda's boyfriend
8. Paulina--Karina's sister. She lives in Poland, but she and her parents are here for a week visiting Karina and Matthew. She got to be a part of the group, because we figured if Matthew and Karina get married, she's going to be a part of the bunch.
9. Lisa--it's me!! I'm Erik's wife and Kayleigh's mom
10. Kayleigh--My baby.
11. Michael--The Giunipero's middle child and husband to Chrissy.
12. Tyler--Michael and Chrissy's son

My favorite picture

For those family members that look at both Robyn's and my website, I know that she just put up her favorite picture on her blog, but I just took this one this morning, and I love it! Kayleigh and I were having one of our many conversations, with her telling me about the crazy dream she had last night. :)

Just for fun

This weekend, Erik played in a softball tournament with a team from church. Unfortunately, the guys didn't do so well, but Erik did get his picture on our newspaper's website! Rumor has it that most of the other teams that participated weren't playing with men from their church. The coach of Erik's team could definitely be described as competitive, and he recruited someone from another softball team, so we weren't totally innocent, either. Still, it was fun to go out and watch the guys play again, even if it was in the 90s at 10 AM. I am also pretty sure that softball will not be Kayleigh's sport since she slept through both of Erik's games!
On a completely different subject--we went out to lunch after church with Erik's parents. While we were sitting at our table, some guy came up to Erik asking if he recognized him. It was a guy that Erik used to babysit! The best part about their short conversation happened when the guy told Erik that he and his brother still quote him. When Erik would play basketball with them, he would say,"Don't shoot the three, go for the knee!!" I thought that was hilarious, but I haven't decided if I can picture Erik saying something like that. It was a long time ago, though, and I wasn't there to tell him that it wasn't the coolest thing he had said that day. Erik claims that he doesn't remember saying it. Maybe he just chose to forget...

Uh oh!

I hate to say it, but I think Kayleigh has found her thumb! I used to be a thumb sucker, and it's possible that Kayleigh is turning into one, too. She has been sucking on her fist for a little while, but these past few days, she has stuck her thumb in her mouth after a few seconds of sucking on her fist! We'll see what happens, but of course I am now having visions of her in braces.
Last night, we played cards at Erick and Amy's house. Obviously, Kayleigh came with us. Erick (the friend, not baby daddy) taught Kayleigh how to play Phase 10. It's a lot cuter when you see the pictures. Amy has them on her camera, so I'll have to get them from her so that I can show them off!

One last shot

Well, it was the last shot for a little while at least! The doctor's office called at 8:30, and asked if Kayleigh and I could come this morning rather than this afternoon. Kayleigh just had to get in to see the nurse and get out, so I didn't think it would take a long time, but of course it's not easy to jump up and go out the door. I think it still took 30 minutes to leave! Like the good girl that she is, Kayleigh slept (yes, slept) through the shot! I heard the nurses talking outside, and one said that it's proof that shots don't really hurt. They might not hurt, but I'm sure it's a little frightening to have someone hold you down while someone else stabs you in the leg!!!
Anyway, I really think that if Kayleigh could talk, she would have woken up after we got home and told me about the weird dream that she had. I think it would go something like this, "Mom, I had this dream (sound familiar to some of you?!?!) that you took me to this office, and we were called back into a room. All of a sudden, there was a lady standing over me with something in her hand, and she told you to hold my leg down so that she could stab me. It didn't really hurt, but can you imagine someone wanting to stab me in the leg???" Then, I picture her looking down at the bandaid on her leg, wondering if it really was a dream...
I love my imagination!!!

I'm not bragging, but...

Okay, maybe I am bragging, but I'm afraid to jinx the good thing I have going. Kayleigh has slept 8+ hours the last 3 nights!! I'm so excited that I don't know what to do with myself!! This morning, I woke up before she did, and was able to pump so that we could attempt our return to church. It's a good thing that I got up so early, because it took almost twice as long to get ready this morning, and I even showered last night!!! Kayleigh still doesn't like to be left by herself and wants to be held, so Erik and I have to trade holding her while the other gets ready. Luckily, it doesn't take Erik too long to get ready and he could give her the first bottle of the day while I worked on myself. Ahhh...life is good!

We survived!!!

Today was Kayleigh's 2 month check up at the doctor's office. Everything still looks good. She weighs 13 pounds 13 ounces with her diaper on, so I'm rounding down to 13 pounds. Her head is 15 1/5 inches around, and she's 23 inches long. The doctor doesn't mind that Kayleigh's so chunky, but did say that Erik and I may need to find more "non-nutritive" ways of comforting her. In other words--quit feeding her so much!!
The worst part about the visit was the shots that Kayleigh had to get. She got 3 today, and screamed the whole time the nurse gave them to her. Amazingly, she was asleep in my arms before I finished checking out!! She's pretty much been napping ever since (we left at 10:20, it's now 1:20). All of her napping meant that I got to take a nap, too!! The nurse said to give her extra loving today, so I let her sleep with me on the couch, rather than trying to make her sleep in her bassinet or pack & play.
We will be back at the doctor's office next Wednesday to get Kayleigh's polio shot. Somehow, they were out of it. Hopefully she'll take it as well as she took these today. Maybe I can get Erik to take her...
