New videos

These are from last week, but still too cute to not post them. In one, Kayleigh is dancing and singing along with a toy that Valerie and Matthew got her. In the other, Kayleigh is showing how she moves food away from her tray when she doesn't want it. She did eventually eat it, though. Have you seen the girl lately?! She doesn't miss many meals!

Congratulations Jonathan and Chat!!

At 4:25 this afternoon, the newest Villacampa arrived. They had a baby boy who weighed in at 7 pounds 12 ounces and is 21 inches long. He hasn't been named yet, but I will everyone know the name and post pictures when I get them. My mom flew up there this morning and is staying with my niece, Mia. They are going to the hospital tonight and hopefully will take some pictures.

Last night's dinner

This probably isn't the most exciting thing ever, but last night was neat because it was the first time that the three of us sat down and ate the same meal. We had chicken and rice (arroz con pollo) mixed with cooked bell peppers and onion. It was delicious, if I do say so myself! No, Kayleigh did NOT eat the whole bowl of food. Erik and I eat Sam's Club chicken, but I'm a little neurotic and won't let Kayleigh eat it because the chicken breasts are HUGE, and it makes me wonder what they do to the chickens to get their breasts so big. (Is that an appropriate blog subject???) Anyway, I cooked some Publix chicken for Kayleigh and separated her food from ours. Kayleigh hasn't liked chicken in the past, so I was glad that she liked her meal this time. I think she'll be having the leftovers for lunch today. Yum!

New hiding place

Kayleigh sure is keeping me on my toes! I'm not sure what I was doing this morning, but I heard Kayleigh making a lot of noise, and came to find her in the dogs' crate. She liked it for a little while, but didn't hesitate to let me know when it was time to help her get out!

First steps

Last night, as Erik and I were trying to wear Kayleigh out and get her ready for bed, we were passing her back and forth between the two of us. We were only about 5 paces apart, but after a few rounds, Kayleigh started to try to do it on her own. We were so excited! She could only take about a step and a half or maybe two steps before she would fall down, but it was still impressive! We must have worn her out pretty good, too, because she slept until 7:45 this morning! Yippee!!!

Kayleigh and friend

Most of you know that I have a summer job. I am watching my neighbor's son for her a few hours a day, Monday through Thursday. This morning I wanted to give him a leg workout, and let him run around like his mother and I do, so I put him in Kayleigh's walker. Kayleigh did not want to miss out on the fun--or didn't want him to go too far in her walker, you decide--so she got behind him to help push. Luckily, he didn't go too fast, so Kayleigh didn't fall!

A new record!

Wow...in twelve, count 'em TWELVE hours, Kayleigh pooped FIVE times!!! Fortunately, four poops were in her diaper. Unfortunately, one poop was in her bathtub! Gross. And, of course I was home alone for that one. My first instinct (believe it or not) was to call Erik since I knew he was still on his way to play basketball. Then, I realized that it wasn't really nice to do to Kayleigh, so I got her out of the tub, praying that she was done pooping, and cleaned up the poop before bathing Kayleigh and calling Erik.
I thought that you all would enjoy my day... :)

Why we need another gate...

I went to get the mail and a couple of things out of the car today, and was outside for two minutes, tops. This is what I found when I got back inside. Once I was behind her, I let Kayleigh climb to the top of the stairs. We have a gate at the top of the stairs, but obviously we need one at the bottom, too!

On the fourth step! (That's really where she was when I got back in!)

Come climb with me!

Kayleigh's class

I know this isn't the best picture of Kayleigh, but I had to buy a picture of her first class! I blotted out the school name off of Miss Wilson's shirt. I learned from my friend, Kelli, the importance of keeping things semi-secretive. (That's not the word I was going for, but I just lost the word I wanted to use!!!) I definitely don't want to give out other children's names! Anyway, for those of you who know my brother, Jonathan, the little boy in the gray sweater is the son of a girl that graduated from high school with him! Isn't that funny??

Water day

Even though Kayleigh isn't enrolled at her day care for the summer, we still planned on visiting about once a week to keep Kayleigh accustomed to it and her teachers and friends. I knew that today was water day at school, but I thought it was just an end of the lesson plan for her class. I had no idea it was going to be such a big deal! I guess the school is going to do it every Friday, but not always with so much stuff. There was a blow up slide with this little tunnel, but Kayleigh's class wasn't allowed on it. That's fine. Kayleigh wasn't real excited about the water this morning. Which is interesting because she had a GREAT time in Erick and Amy's pool last night!
Kayleigh's favorite part of the morning was the snow cones the kids had after being in the water. She would bite at the top of it, and eventually just grabbed chunks of ice with her fingers!

Does this dress look familiar?

This will probably only look familiar to a couple of people. Kayleigh is wearing a dress that Valerie and I used to wear. Neat, huh? Too bad there isn't a picture of me in it, but Mom would have had to think of that some 20+ years ago and remembered to keep the dress.

Naked baby!

Erik just told me that while I was at the store filling Kayleigh's prescriptions, she figured out how to take off her diaper!

Visit with the allergist

Yesterday morning, I took Kayleigh to see an allergist to try to figure out why she has an almost constant cough and runny/stuffy nose. I PROMISE that I will make this as short as I can, but it is a long story. On the plus side, Kayleigh doesn't have allergies. On the down side, the doctor said that he thinks that she has an overactive immune system. That means that when Kayleigh got her first cold, her body sent a bunch of white blood cells to her sinuses. This clogged her drainage tubes, and then the medicine couldn't completely kill all of the bacteria that had originally caused the infection. So, next the bacteria would rebuild in her sinuses and start the process all over again.
Kayleigh will be on a bunch of medicines for the next couple of months. She has three antibiotics that she'll take one after another (repeating medicines 2 and 3). She is on a steroid for the next ten days, too. On top of all of that, the doctor wants her on a nasal spray indefinitely. Hopefully the medicines will get her well before we both go back to school in August. The goal of the nasal spray is to keep her nasal passages open so that if/when she gets sick in the fall the medicine will be able to get to the infection, rather than be hindered by clogged passages.

Last birthday party

Tonight was the last birthday party for Kayleigh. We had a big one for all of the Eikeland June birthdays...and Kayleigh. :) We all had a good time. (I did, at least!) It's always fun to get together with the family. We tried to get Kayleigh and Thor to split their little cake, but as you can see from the pictures, Kayleigh still doesn't like to get dirty. Thor is obviously a boy, because he dug right in. Somehow the mess got cleaned up, but it wasn't done by me!

Doctor's appointment

We finally went to the doctor's office for something other than an ear infection! Today was Kayleigh's one year check up. She started to cry as soon as we were brought back into the office. She was weighed--23 pounds, and measured--26 inches. She is in the 75th percentile for weight, but 25th percentile for height. On the plus side, she's moving down in the percentiles for weight, but she's still short.
Kayleigh got two shots today. Two nurses came in and tag teamed her, which I think was better. Each nurse took a leg and they jammed the needles in at the same time. I did NOT watch!
Kayleigh will have her last birthday party on Sunday with the Eikeland family. On Tuesday she goes to the allergist, and hopefully he'll give us some kind of answer to why she's either stuffy or has a runny nose all the time. Our pediatrician said that he wasn't sure how much information we would get. He said that the allergist might be able to give us an idea as to what is making her sick, but since her immune system is still developing, he might not do a complete work up until after she turns 2. We would be happy with some idea as to what to do to make her feel better!

Standing on her own

Today, Kayleigh stood all by herself! It's pretty amazing how quickly she seems to change. I'm not sure why I say that, though, because she's been pulling up forever now. But, it's just been barely a week that she has been walking around pushing the walker.
