More

Erik is trying to teach Kayleigh a couple of signs, and is really good at showing her how to do "more" when she eats. I tried my hand at sign language at dinner tonight, and this is the result. She's not as good at using her hands as she is at using her voice. She was much more demanding earlier in the feeding. I think she was getting more full and less loud.

Sitting up

Kayleigh has been able to sit up on her own for a couple of months now, but yesterday, Erik and I saw her get to a sitting position from her stomach. She can push up to a crawl position, and then keep going from there. I think that means that she should be crawling pretty soon.
Erik put Kayleigh to bed about 8:00 last night. Around 9:15, she started crying, so I went upstairs to check on her. When I got into her room, she was sitting up looking at me! I couldn't believe it. I think now she's going to have to learn how to lay back down. I'm afraid she's going to wake us up for a few more nights trying to figure out how to get back to a good sleeping position.

Work it out!

Erik went to an FSU basketball game with his friend, Lee, this afternoon, and got this headband. Kayleigh definitely looks like she's ready to go to the gym.

Bathtub blow out!

I decided to give Kayleigh a bath this morning before we head over to Jacksonville for a couple of days. I was reading my Reader's Digest as she bathed, and I got a funny feeling that she was doing something in the tub that she shouldn't be doing. I thought she peed, but when I took a better look, it was POOP!! Oh my!! And not normal baby poop--this was the thick stuff like she had been eating solids. Gross!! I grabbed her and wiped her down. Then I started in on the ducky tub and the big tub. It was a MESS! When I was ready to start over with her again, I saw that there were poop streaks on the bath mat that I placed Kayleigh on. Oh boy. We had quite the time this morning. On the plus side--she's all clean now!! :)
P.S. A lot happened this morning, so keep reading the other posts!

New booster seat

Granny and Aunt Charlene (Shirley's mom and sister) are in town, and last night Aunt Charlene offered to babysit for us. Poor Erik and I didn't know what to do with ourselves, and we ended up at Toys R Us. Kayleigh really does need to have some kind of high chair or something for when she eats. All we've used so far is her Bumbo on the table. We have friends with a seat similar to this, and they always brought it with them when they went out to eat so their daughter didn't have to sit in the gross high chairs at the restaurants. What I like about the seat is the portability (it's coming to Jacksonville with us today) and the toys on top. The toys come off and Kayleigh will have a smooth tray to eat off of. She had some Puffs to eat in her chair this morning, but mostly wanted to play with her toys.

Kayleigh the Disciplinarian

I'm not sure what the giraffe did wrong, but Kayleigh made him face the corner!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

This is really just an excuse to post this cute picture from last weekend. Erik and I are going to hang out here at home tonight. It's been a hectic week, and it'll be nice to have some quiet time at home.

Church dedication

We had Kayleigh dedicated at church today. Really, it means that we are going to dedicate ourselves to raising Kayleigh in the church. For those of you who have been to dedications before, you know that it's a quick speech by the pastor, and then you're done. Kayleigh did very well. She just checked out her audience and listened to Dr. Dortch as he spoke. Jim and Shirley were there, or course. With them being in town, there is no way we would allow them to miss it! Mom and dad came up for the service. Valerie and Matt were going to come over, but Valerie got sick. Nick and Jonathan and families would have liked to come as well, but it's a little too far for them to travel. I have a feeling mom and dad didn't mind too much, since it meant that they got to have Kayleigh to themselves. Kayleigh and I are going to Jacksonville next weekend to cheer on some of the "Priddy Penguins" that are running in a half and full marathon, so we'll see Valerie and Matthew then.
Here are the verses that we chose for Kayleigh:
"And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light." Colossians 1:10-12

Sleep at last!!!

For those of you who know, Kayleigh went for a little over a week without sleeping much. I'm not sure how she did it, but she did! She would wake up almost every hour at night and not want to go back to sleep. Saturday night, Kayleigh fell asleep before I got her nightie on her. There was no way I was going to wake her up to put it on, so I just laid her down and put a blanket over her. She still woke up twice, but they were several hours apart. She actually slept a good 12 hours last night. I was thrilled!!! I haven't had that much sleep in awhile, and it felt good to not be dragging first thing in the morning. I say that, but it was really Erik that was up with her most nights.
Erik and I decided that she either needs a lighter nightie, or we're just going to go back to letting her sleep without clothes on, but cover her with a blanket of course!
Here's to a restful night's sleep!!

Sam's Club

As crazy as it may seem, Sam's Club seems to be the place for Kayleigh to have firsts. Okay, she's only had two firsts there, but they were significant. Kayleigh laughed at Erik for the first time at Sam's Club. That was awhile ago, but I couldn't believe it when she laughed at him. It was pretty cool. Of course, it was when I was home with her all day every day, and I couldn't figure out why she hadn't laughed at me!
Moving on...On Saturday, we were back at Sam's buying some stuff. We let Kayleigh sit up in the shopping cart for the first time. Any other time we'd had her in a cart, we always just propped her up in her car seat. She LOVED sitting up and being able to see people! Other people loved getting to see her, too, but is that really a big surprise??? :) Our little Kayleigh is turning into such a big girl!
