She has arrived

Kayleigh Anne Eikeland was born at 3:28am, May 30th. I guess we need to change the Blog title from Coming June 2007 to Came May 2007. She came about a week early, but Lisa had been expecting her all Memorial Day weekend. She tricked us and waited till Daddy got to work on Tuesday before getting kicked off. Lisa's water broke at 8:45am. Over 18 hours of Labor, over 2 hours of pushing, and finally a C-section Kayleigh was born. She weighed right at 8 pound and was 19.9 inches long. She is very healthy and very tired, as is her mommy. Here are a few pics to wet your appetite and more will follow soon. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!

Embarrassing story for the day.

This actually happened a couple of days ago, but I try to think of fun things to write about to keep everyone checking the blog! On Friday, Mrs. Giunipero and I had a shopping excursion. We met up with Erik for lunch at a restaurant called Garfields. It has nothing to do with the cartoon, but it was something different that none of us had in awhile. When we got to the restaurant, the hostess took us to a booth to be seated. I have NEVER in my life had a problem sitting in a booth until that day! When I squeezed in, I realized that there was no way I would be able to sit at the booth and do anything other than hold my breath! The table was bolted to the floor, so there was no moving it away from me. Luckily, someone either accidently or purposely made one side of the booth a little larger than the other, and I was able to sit comfortably and enjoy my lunch. I thought I was going to have to ask for another table. I know, I know, you get big when you get pregnant. I just didn't think that would be one of the problems that I would face. On the bright side, I am down to the single digits before my due date, so most of my belly will be gone before I know it!
Now that I think about it, the server wasn't the best I ever had. Maybe we would have been better off moving to another table...

I'M DONE!!!

Ahh!!! It's such a good feeling to know that other people had to get up and go to work this morning, and I don't have to go back for months!!! My official return date to school is December 19th. I'm going to go back to give the semester exams. I have to teach for at least one day during the semester for it to count towards retirement and benefits. I figured I could handle the 3 half days that we have for exams, and then enjoy a 2 week vacation for Christmas break!
I promise to try to relax for these next couple of days, but I'm not sure if that'll really happen! I have lots to do!

She's a comin'!!

I had my 38 week check up this afternoon, and it looks like there's a good chance that we could have a May baby, rather than a June bug! At my check up, I found out that I am almost 4 centimeters dilated and 80% effaced. The doctor said that she could feel the baby's head. The good news is that she hasn't grown anymore. I'm still measuring 40 weeks. Whew!
The doctor was a little concerned because my blood pressure was up some today. She looked back at my chart and said that it has fluctuated depending on the day/time of my appointment.
Everything still looks good. I'm eager to meet our little one!

Baby shower

I had my second, and last, baby shower this past weekend. One of the best part was having family in town for it. It was a quick trip for everyone, but I had a good time with them.
The baby shower was a huge success, and I made out like a bandit! I have the pictures on snapfish.com if you would like to take a peek! Here's how to get to snapfish:

37+ weeks and dropping?

I think that baby is getting ready to come! I also think that I am starting to drop. What do you think?? I'm wearing the same top in these pictures so that hopefully it's easier for you to tell.
P.S. I will let you know when I have the baby shower pictures posted onto snapfish.com

FINALLY, a picture

Here's a new picture that I've promised. I think that my stomach is getting lower. I'm thinking happy thoughts about her moving her way down and getting ready to be born! Notice how my belly barely fits in the picture!

It all makes sense now...

I had my weekly check up at the doctor's office today, and I have finally figured out why people have reacted the way they have when they've seen me recently. I am measuring 40 weeks! I am as big as some women are when they give birth, and I still have 3 weeks to go!!
At my appointment, I was asked if I wanted to be checked for dilation. Of course I did! I want to know if anything is happening that I should know about. The doctor said that I am 2 centimeters dilated and 50% effaced. I was excited about that for a little while, but then I realized that some girls I have known were dilated for a good couple of weeks before anything else started to happen. The baby's heartbeat is still strong, and the doctor says that she is working her way down. I PROMISE to post a picture soon so that you can see what I look like. Erik is upstairs working, and I don't want to interrupt.
The doctor also said that she is going to give me two more weeks for something to happen before we discuss inducing labor. I think that we'll talk about it next Wednesday, but she won't do anything until I'm 39 weeks. In a way, an induction sounds great, because I'm anxious to see this person that I've been making for so long, but on the other hand, I have said that I didn't want to be induced because of complications that can arise. But then again, she is a hoss, and I don't want to deliver a 10 pound baby! Hopefully everything will work out on its own. I look forward to these weekly appointments now, and can't wait to see what I find out next week!

Annoyed...

Here I am in St Petersburg, trying to enjoy Mother's Day weekend with my family, and I'm having people that are really starting to get on my nerves! Mom, dad, grandma, Erik and I went to Red Lobster tonight for dinner. A lady at the next table over asked me when I was due. I told her that I was due in 3 weeks. She replied with, "We're getting out of here soon, because I think it's going to happen before then!" Thanks, lady!
Erik and I were in JCPenney tonight, and another lady came up to me and asked when I was due. Same reply. With a shocked expression she asked, "Are you having twins?!?!" Once again, thanks lady!
Am I really that big?! I don't think so, but it's my first pregnancy. What do I know??? I'll post another picture soon so that you can decide.

Leg cramp!!

Last night started like any other night. I fell asleep peacefully, and at 2:30 woke up to go to the bathroom. Then, my right calf cramped up so badly that I thought I would start crying. I loudly whisper for Erik to wake up and massage my leg. This kid must be used to my panics, because he stayed calm and did as he was told. Then, I remembered that our childbirthing instructor had said something about moving your foot around to get rid of the cramp. I meant to ask Erik to move my foot for me, but I guess I just said something about moving my foot, because his reaction was to snore in my direction! I was left getting the cramp out by myself.
In the morning, Erik couldn't remember if the whole episode really happened or if he dreamt it. Is this a sign of things to come???

I hate allergies

I didn't even realize it was still allergy season for me until a few days ago. It always starts when the back of my mouth gets sore. It's not my throat, but way back in my mouth, and there's nothing I can do to make it not bother me. Yesterday (Wednesday), my nose started to run like a fountain. I spent half of last night awake being miserable from not being able to breathe. It's uncomfortable to breathe out of my nose, so that just leaves my mouth. As many of you might know, breathing out of your mouth while you're sleeping leads to drooling. YUCK!
I thought I would make it through this last week of school without having to take extra time off. Around 1 AM I decided that there was no way that I could suffer through a day at school. Some know that we were out of power on Tuesday night due to a downed tree that knocked out a powerline. I didn't get much sleep that night, either, because it was hot and uncomfortable in the house. I spent a lot of that night wondering how I would get ready for work in the morning if the power didn't come back on. So, first thing this morning I called the substitute man at school and arranged for a sub. I have quite enjoyed my day off of work, and have gotten a couple of naps in already this morning. Enjoy it while I can, right?!?!?

36 weeks = 9 months???

I am officially nine months pregnant! I'm also officially getting ready to give birth to a hoss!! I had my weekly check up today. Before I saw the doctor, I had an ultrasound to see what I'm measuring so big. It turns out that I'm going to have a big baby! According to the ultrasound, she weighs 7 lbs 3 ozs already! The only good news is that her head isn't too big. It looks to be a passable size. :) I'm sure the doctor was worried about how I would take the news. She started out talking about how they won't induce labor early just because there's a possibility that she'll be big. I'm not for inducing early, so that's not a problem. I still think that she could be extra long, and that is contributing to some of the weight. It's just something that we need to be aware of.
2 more things I learned at my appointment:
1. I have group B Strep. This means that I'll have to have antibiotics through an IV during labor. The other Spanish teacher also had this, so I wonder if it's something that we picked up at school???
2. I might get yet another ultrasound to check her size in a couple of weeks!!!!!!!!!!

Things I miss...

I have had an incredibly easy pregnancy so far, but I was just thinking about things that I miss now that I have this monstrous belly attached to my body. I'm sure that other ladies may have more input, and I may add to this as time goes on. This list is in no particular order.
1. I miss being able to see the scale without having to look around my belly. (Not that I always like what I see! :))
2. I didn't even realize that I couldn't see my toes until someone told me to check! Where are my feet??
3. I miss being able to bend over and do stuff like a.) comfortably put on pants/shorts/shoes and socks, b.) shave my legs!!! c.) pick things up off of the floor.
4. Carrying on a conversation while I walk up the stairs. Really, I just miss being able to walk up the stairs without feeling like I'm going to die from lack of breath!
5. Having someone start a conversation without the question, "When are you due??"
6. People being able to talk to me without wanting to rub my belly. Sheesh! Believe it or not, I'm getting used to the belly rub, and it doesn't bother me as much now as it did before.
7. Sleeping through the night!!!

There are a lot more complaints out there. I'm not trying to whine, but these are things that I miss--especially the bending over part! That is SO annoying!!!

Tails and Trails

Today was the last day of the racing season for Erik and Drew. They finished the season with a run that benefits the Leon County Animal Shelter. The run took place at a nearby park, and the runners ran on trails around the park. Erik and Drew ran the 5K this time. Neither of them hit their personal best, but both of them came in 2nd in their division! It was a great way to finish their season. The mugs are what they won. I have a feeling that if Erik keeps up this running stuff, we'll have a nice set pretty soon!

35 week check up

Today I had my 35 week check up. I think the best part about it was getting to take a half day off of work. I had a 2:30 appointment, and since I only teach one class in the afternoon (the last period of the day), I got a substitute for the period and left at lunch. What a way to work!
The doctor is still happy with my weight gain. She said that my blood pressure looked good. Last time it was a little high, so I was glad to hear that. The baby's heartbeat is still strong, and she was moving all around before the doctor got in the room. Here are the things that the doctor told me:
1. Baby is still sitting high, so I'm not going into labor anytime soon!
2. I am still measuring big, so I'll get another (woohoo!) ultrasound at my next appointment. She wants to check if it's the baby that's big or if there is still a lot of fluid causing me to look bigger than I am.
3. I am maybe a half centimeter dilated. No biggie there!
4. I had my Group B Strep test. It's something that adults can carry and not have it affect them, but you can pass it on to the baby in labor, giving it an infection.
5. I start going every week until the end!

The Castos

Many of you have heard about our friends Erick and Amy. This picture was taking at Amy's hooding ceremony Friday night. She graduated from FAMU with a PhD in Pharmacy. (Now do you see why we're friends?!?!:))
We met Erick and Amy in our Sunday school class, and started hanging out about a year ago. They are lots of fun, and Erik and I are glad that we've become friends. Amy and I like to talk about the "Erick/Erik"s, and "my Erik" and "your Erick". They guys' favorite thing to do is either watch "The Office" or relive every scene from the previous episode. They're pretty funny when they get together!
Amy will be at the baby shower on the 19th, so you'll get to meet her then!!
